The city of Maitland is very pleased to announce that David Manuel has joined city staff as police chief. He was sworn-in earlier this week at Maitland City Hall.

"We're happy to welcome Dave, a 24-year veteran with the Maitland Police Department, back to lead the department," said City Manager Sharon Anselmo. "Dave is a perfect fit as Maitland's police chief – he's energetic, experienced, and dedicated to keeping Maitland safe. I know he is excited to build upon the great team of professionals who comprise the Maitland Police Department."

In his new role as police chief, Manuel will provide leadership to the Maitland Police Department and supervise its day-to-day operations. Specifically, he will research and respond to inquiries and concerns from the public and resolve complaints. He will prepare and present educational programs within the local school system and community groups. In addition, Manuel will provide guidance to professional and patrol staff in the areas of operations, training, purchasing, and investigations.

Manuel comes to the city from the UCF Police Department. Manuel began his service to the Maitland Police Department in 1990 as a patrol officer. He subsequently served as police sergeant, police lieutenant, police commander, and deputy chief. His commendations include Police Officer of the Year in 1991, 1992, and 1994; the Life Saving Award in 1990; and the Valor Award in 1992. From 1998 through 2005, he oversaw the city's SWAT team in the role of commander.

"Returning to Maitland is a homecoming for me," said Manuel. "I'm delighted to rejoin staff in this new role and I look forward to serving the residents of Maitland again."

Manuel is a graduate of Lake Howell High School, the U.S. Army Non-Commissioned Officer Academy Class of 1983, Seminole Community College Law Enforcement Academy, the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisiana, and the FBI National Academy.
