Meet the new mayor, same as the old mayor.

Dale McDonald will continue to be Maitland mayor for another three-year term. He was the only candidate to qualify for the race, according to city clerk Maria Waldrop. The municipal election’s qualifying period ran Jan. 22 to Jan. 26.

“I love doing this, I love being mayor; it’s all clear to me,” McDonald said. “Doing the right things today that will impress our grandkids is what’s important and I have a great council that wants to do the same thing.”

McDonald won his seat in 2015 with 67 percent of the vote. He will start his new term with a swearing-in ceremony at the beginning of the April 9 Maitland City Council Meeting.

In the city of Winter Park, mayor Steve Leary is being challenged by contender Jim Fitch. The election is scheduled for March 13.
