The Winter Garden police department is searching for a suspect who robbed a Publix supermarket at knifepoint Tuesday morning, said Winter Garden police Lt. Scott Allen.

WGPD received reports of the robbery at the Publix located at Stoneybrook West Parkway around 7:30 am. The robbery prompted a 30-minute lockdown at Whispering Oak Elementary School, Lt. Allen said.

Surveillance video taken of the incident portrays a black male individual wearing a black hooded jacket, sunglasses and a black bandana to conceal his face.

“He approached the service desk and stood there while the customer service rep assisted other people,” explained Lt. Allen. “Once it was his turn, he placed a knife on the counter and demanded money.”

The customer service representative then gave the robber approximately $200 in cash, Lt. Allen added, before leaving the store and fleeing the scene in a black sedan with chrome trim.

No injuries were reported during the incident, but anyone with helpful information can call the Winter Garden Police Department at 407-656-3636.
