As we start the year fresh with resolutions, gym memberships and new beginnings, we have the opportunity to begin anew in our homes with fresh style as well. Late 2014 (Seems like 2014 was just yesterday! Sorry, had to do it) Pantone announced the 2015 color of the year: Marsala. Pantone describes Marsala as a naturally robust and earthy wine red, equally suited for design accents or on its own.

More brown and earthy than brick, with a subtle richness that gives a call back to it’s namesake wine, Marsala would make a lovely color for a sofa, rug or bed linens. Conversely, if you are not apt to redo your entire living or bedroom based on Pantone’s latest color selection, some Marsala tinted pillows, a throw or even place settings or other kitchen wares can renew your personal space in the spirit of the new year.

OK, so now that we’ve covered color, how about some other décor options for your pad? Some trends we saw in 2014 likely to bleed over into 2015 are modern luxe, warm metallic and pastel hues per a recent article in the online blog Apartment Therapy. Not just for use in small spaces however, these trends can also live large in homes of any size.

Let’s start with the warm metallics. As we see in the fashion arena, warmer hued metals are still on trend, especially copper and rose gold. This is a super easy to incorporate trend that can be added to a kitchen with a gorgeous copper pot or pan or even an entire cookware set.

Love the modern life? I do, and lucky for anyone with similar tastes this style seems here to stay. Modern shapes in rich materials such as marble and gold are popular and can be utilized in lighting fixtures, tables, art and furniture. You can snag this trend at any of the larger furniture stores and even the discount home décor chains.

Last but not least: If you prefer a softer look for your interiors, stick with the pastel trend. Be it a sea foam green leather sofa set or a pale purple area rug, pastels work nicely with light and mild hues and look new paired with modern shapes.

Whatever style you choose, it’s always a good idea to revive your personal living quarters with new elements of color and style every once in a while. Even though you may not buy a new home every year you can make it feel new with a few simple updates.
