The signs are placed every half-mile on the north shore of Lake Apopka.
St. Johns River Water Management District, Orange County Parks & Recreation, Lake County Parks & Trails and Friends of Lake Apopka have collaborated to update the mile-marker signs on the North Shore's Lake Apopka Loop Trail.
The signs are placed at every half-mile from 0.0 at Magnolia Park in Orange County to 17.3 at Green Mountain in Lake County. The easy-to-read signs are consistent across both counties and are at cyclist viewing height. Lake and Orange counties provided the signs. SJRWMD installed the posts and signs and will maintain them.
This new signage will improve safety on the Loop Trail.
In 2024, Orange County is scheduled to connect the West Orange Trail to Magnolia Park and Lake County is scheduled to connect Hancock Road Trail to Green Mountain, which will create a 42-mile safe cycling path around Florida's fourth-largest lake. That trail will sit directly on Florida's Coast-to-Coast Connector trail and attract cyclists from all over the country.
