OCOEE More than 200 students, faculty and volunteers pitched in to help spruce up Ocoee High School on Saturday, March 4.

Organized by principal Laura Beusse, it was the first ever clean-up event at the school and was nicknamed the Knight Spruce Up.

“One of the things we can do is make sure that we take good care of what we have here,” Beusse said.

The volunteers were grouped by which student organizations they were involved in - such as the athletics department, the band program and the student body government. Then each group was tasked with cleaning up the areas they primarily used.

Over the course of the morning, the volunteers filled three dumpsters with debris, trash and brush.

After such a successful day, Beusse hopes to make Knight Spruce Up an annual event.

“When you contribute to the good of the whole, you’re more invested in the school,” she said. “This is our home for six to seven hours a day, so it’s an opportunity to give back and show pride.”
