The votes are in – at least until the official election on March 14.
Winter Park residents got the chance to make their early pick for Winter Park City Commission Seat 1 Thursday night at the Winter Park City Commission Straw Poll hosted by the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce.
Voters got to meet candidates Wes Naylor and Greg Seidel before casting a straw ballot for their preferred choice.
Challenger Wes Naylor edged incumbent Greg Seidel 43 votes to 39.
A city charter amendment set for the March 14 general election also passed. The amendment would eliminate primary elections and instead provide for run-off elections if needed following the general election. It passed by a convincing margin, with 47 votes saying “yes” and 22 votes saying “no.”
“Pairing a straw poll with our popular Sip, Shop and Stroll event proved to be a valuable experience for our members and the community to engage with candidates seeking political office,” said Betsy Gardner Eckbert, President/CEO for the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce, in the announcement of the results.
