Oakland celebrates Arbor Day

The town was designated a Tree City USA more than a decade ago.

Oakland town officials gathered near the shores of Lake Apopka on Saturday, April 30, to plant a tree in recognition of National Arbor Day. When in bloom, the tabebuia will exhibit a vibrant yellow flower near the fishing pier, which was dedicated to former Mayor Jake Voss prior to the planting.

Oakland has been named a Tree City for at least 10 years. There are four standards a community must comply with to qualify for Tree City USA. It must have a Tree Board or Forestry Department, must have a local tree ordinance, must spend $2 per capita and must promote Arbor Day.
