CLAIRE McKENZIE BLASTIC passed away peacefully on May 21 at home, surrounded by family.

Claire had courageously fought a four-year battle with breast cancer. Her children were her life’s focus and was very involved with Ocoee Elementary and Middle school PTA’s, loved her time as a scouting parent, and relished her time being a “Band Mom” with the OHS Knights. She was a member of the Winter Garden Bloom and Grow Society, and brought home her love for gardening by starting her own butterfly garden.

Claire was known for her many hobbies. She was an avowed Parrothead, avid photographer and loved college football. She traded watching soccer on TV with her husband by dragging him to musical theatre performances. Claire was known as the family historian and had cultivated a love for genealogy, delighting in finding a new cousin or a great grandparent. A FSU graduate in 1983, she loved to proudly exclaim her Seminole love especially in a Gator dominated family.

As part of her personal healing, she helped other cancer patients by volunteering at the UF Cancer chemotherapy center. Claire is survived by her husband, two sons, two sisters, parents, and uncountable cousins, nephews and a grand-niece.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
