Henry Fitzpatrick, 76, of Windermere, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 25, 2018.

He was born Aug. 12, 1941 in Madison, Georgia, to Henry and Glennie Fitzpatrick. His parents and sister, Elizabeth, predeceased him.

His wife of 55 years, Gayle; daughter, Beth; granddaughter, Diana; and many, many nieces and nephews survive him.

Henry grew up in Covington, Georgia, and was very active in the Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Newton County High School in 1959 and from North Georgia College in 1964. He received his MBA from the University of Georgia in 1971 and loved “the Dawgs.”

Five days after graduating from North Georgia College, he entered the Army and served for more than 28 years, retiring as a colonel. His military medals include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.

After retiring from the Army in 1991, Henry worked as program manager with a defense contractor in McLean, Virginia, and, after experiencing snow over the mailbox in 1998, Henry and Gayle moved to Orlando to be near their daughter, Beth.

He then worked for Westminster Services as training coordinator and ended his career in 2011 working as a program director for a defense contractor. Henry was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

At heart, Henry was an educator and loved teaching, whether it was training soldiers or teaching in several Army schools, at local community colleges or for Westminster Services. However, after retirement, he especially enjoyed volunteering at Lake Whitney Elementary as a math and reading tutor.

Henry had a passion for traveling and visited all 50 states and more than 60 countries. He loved his family and friends and had a very generous spirit for anyone in need.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life to be held at Windermere Town Hall, 520 Main St., Windermere at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. Those wishing to honor Henry can donate to Wounded Warriors Project or a charity of your choice.
