Merlynn Sharp Wright, 91, of Winter Garden, Florida, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017. She was born April 15, 1926, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Andrew Jackson and Stella Fowler Sharp.

She was salutatorian of her graduating class at Oak Park High School.

Merlynn married Samuel Leonard Wright in 1943, and they had two children. They moved from Michigan to Central Florida in 1955 and, eventually, to Winter Garden.

She worked as an operator for the telephone company and ran Sam's Union 76 gas station with her husband. She was Christian. She loved making quilts for loved ones and crocheting.

Merlynn was preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Wright and Howard Wright; and both her children, Duane and Karen.

Survivors: grandchildren, Valerie Wilson, Winter Garden, Nicole Wright, Detroit, Michigan, Amanda Wright, Salt Lake City, Utah, Adam Wright, Caledonia, Michigan, Eric Thorp, Merrill, Michigan, Christianna Sperty, Boca Raton, Florida; great-granddaughter, Kelsey Blanton, Jacksonville; stepsons, Tom Wright, Phoenix, Arizona, Howard Wright, Caledonia, Michigan; stepdaughters, Sherry Sperty, Boca Raton, Florida, and Mary Thorp, Merrill, Michigan; sister-in-law, Elaine Norris, New Baltimore, Michigan.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home, 1148 E. Plant St., Winter Garden. The funeral service is at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans, dav.org.
