For the past 14 years, the City of Ocoee Police Department has hosted a motorcycle run to fundraise for the “Toys for Kids in Need” program. This year, they're doing something a little different.

On Saturday, Nov. 5, the department will organize a poker tournament – a Texas Hold’em form of Poker. Registration starts at 11 a.m. and the tournament will begin at noon at the Ocoee Lakeshore Center.

The department encourages a donation of $50, which will include a Catered lunch. Toy donations will also be accepted. For each toy donated (up to five), players will get an extra 1,000 chips. The winners of the tournament will receive prizes.

"We are hoping to reach our goal of raising $5,000 for the (Toys for Kids in Need) program," said police Sgt. Mireya Ianuzzi. "The first place winner will receive a $500 visa gift card, second place will get $250 visa gift card and other prizes will include gift cards to Ellie Lou’s BBQ, Edible Arrangements, That One Spot burgers and others."

Last year, the department toy donation program helped approximately 600 children. On Dec. 15 of this year, Ocoee police will begin distributing the donated toys and toys bought using fundraised money to needy children who have pre-registered. Registration for the program will be from Nov. 14 to Dec. 13.
