The Ocoee Police Department recently announced it will be hosting a Citizens Police Academy.

The CPA is designed to acquaint individuals with an overview of the criminal justice system and the activities of the Ocoee PD.

"The CPA offers the community a better understanding of how law enforcement and the public can work together to prevent crime," the department said.

The CPA will be held every Wednesday evening for six weeks at the Ocoee PD.

Those who wish to attend a firearms course can also attend a Saturday meeting at the Ocoee PD's gun range.

The CPA will be taught by Ocoee Police officers and industry experts.

Since the program is funded by donations, the classes are free to city residents, although class sizes are limited.

CPA participants will also be eligible for one ride-a-long with an officer on patrol.

Those who wish to register for the CPA can complete an online form available on the Ocoee PD website.
