Ocoee police arrested a 20-year-old man Thursday who allegedly pointed a cell phone at a child in the restrooms at the West Oaks Library.
According to police, a 10-year-old boy was in the men’s restroom at the library on Wednesday, Aug. 1 when he said he saw movement through the cracks to the stall next to him. The boy said he then saw a cell phone come up above his restroom stall and point directly at him.
Police said the boy told his mother about what happened, and she waited for the man to exit the bathroom and ask why he had his phone pointed at her son. A black man, later identified as Wade Armstrong Duffus, left the bathroom and said no one else was in there.
Duffus then walked around the boy’s mother and left the library as she attempted to stop him, police said, and library staff attempted to stop him in the parking lot. Duffus then got into his vehicle and drove off.
Police arrested Duffus on Aug. 9 for video voyeurism.
Ocoee police have asked that parents use this as a reminder to talk to their children about telling a parent or another trusted adult anytime they feel uncomfortable about a situation.
