Windermere and Ocoee high schools this week will be host locations for a two-day multi-agency public safety drill.

Called Resilient Orange 2019, the drill aims to foster staff training, teamwork and information sharing in a plausible active assailant response scenario, according to Orange County Public Schools.

The public safety drill is being held from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Windermere High. The student reunification training is being held from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 18, at Ocoee High.

These exercises will help train school staff and community partners to ensure that everyone knows and understands responsibilities and procedures required during an emergency incident on school campuses. Participants will “evaluate policies, plans and procedures (and) enhance interagency coordination and cooperation by involving the key representatives during an active assailant incident,” OCPS stated.

OCPS will place emphasis on quick and accurate notification and communication, information sharing, command and control responsibilities and protective actions.

According to OCPS, participants include the following: Central Florida Disaster Medical Coalition, Central Florida Intelligence Exchange (CFIX), City of Ocoee Fire Department, City of Ocoee Police Department, City of Orlando Fire Department, City of Orlando Office of Emergency Management, City of Orlando Police Department, City of Winter Garden Fire Department, City of Winter Garden Police Department, East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, Emergency Response Educators and Consultants, Inc., Florida Department of Education, Florida Department of Health in Orange County, Florida Division of Emergency Management, Florida Highway Patrol, Medical Examiner’s Office, Orange County Emergency Management, Orange County Fire Rescue, Orange County Medical Director’s Office, Orange County Public Schools, Orange County Public Schools District Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange Technical College, Town of Windermere Police Department, US Attorney’s Office, and Middle District Florida.
