Olympia High School earns fifth consecutive grade

WEST ORANGE — Olympia High School posted a fifth-consecutive “A” grade following the 2013-14 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, Orange County Public Schools announced in December.

Other schools posting “A” grades include Dr. Phillips, Boone, Freedom, Lake Nona, Timber Creek and University high schools.

West Orange High School earned a “B,” while Ocoee High School posted a “C.”

In addition, the 2013-14 high-school graduation rates in Orange County rose 1.3 percentage points — up to 88.1% — among the district’s 19 traditional high schools. West Orange, the largest school in the county, posted the greatest rise with a 9.2-percentage-point increase, up to a 91.1% graduation rate. Timber Creek led the district with a 95.6% graduation rate. 

Other high performers include Olympia (93.6%), Lake Nona (93.5%), Jones High (93.4%), Boone (90.9%), Winter Park (90.9%) and Freedom (90.7%).

Graduation rates at other high schools include University (89.0%), Dr. Phillips (88.8%), Ocoee (87.3%), Apopka (85.8%), East River (85.7%), Edgewater (85.6%), Wekiva (84.6%), Cypress Creek (84.1%), Evans (77.7%), and Oak Ridge (74.2%). Orange County Virtual School also posted a 90.9% graduation rate.

The overall district graduation rate, which includes charter and alternative schools, decreased 1.3 percentage points to 74.6% since last year. The best charters included Orlando Science Charter (100%), Cornerstone Academy (96.6%) and Legacy Charter (95.1%). Charter schools are not under the direction of the Orange County School Board.
