Prairie Lake Elementary School’s LaunchEd students received a surprise off day Tuesday, Aug. 25, as an internet outage in the area affected the school and its surrounding area.

Around 8:30 a.m., the school posted on its Facebook page that it was experiencing internet outages, which led to teachers and staff not being able to access their email and other programs that require internet service.

“It appears as though the internet will be down until 4 p.m. today at the earliest,” said PLES in a follow up Facebook post just before 10 a.m. “AT&T is actively working on the lines that were cut that caused this issue for our school, the neighborhoods surrounding us and other schools in the area.”

Despite LaunchEd students getting the day off, attendance will be excused for the day and the day’s instruction will be made up in the remaining week, PLES said.

Parents of students utilizing virtual school — which is not done through PLES — were told to contact Orange County Virtual School for more information.
