Will Campbell discusses holidays, upcoming events and more in this month's Baldwin Park update.

We’ve seen a lot of things over the last 18 months. Some good, some not so good, and some other stuff that really just left us saying, “Huh?” Fast-forward to today, and it’s fantastic to see our neighborhood thriving again.

Restaurants are packed on a Tuesday night. Stores are buzzing with pre-holiday purchases (don’t forget, those supply chains aren’t back to normal yet, y’all). As the weather begins to cool, the lake and parks around it are filled with people working out or just enjoying the beauty of Lake Baldwin. It’s great to see things coming back to life!

As I write this, we’re knee deep in the planning of multiple October events, including Kidtoberfest for the little ones and the Baldwin Park Spirit Stroll for us adults.  It feels so good to be working with people again to bring amazing events back to the neighborhood.

Not only are events coming back, but so are the holidays! Although the October events already will have passed by the time you read this, we also have so much to look forward to in November, including one of my favorite days: Thanksgiving! I mean, who doesn’t love a day where you can eat, drink and nap, then do it all again, without judgement. Speaking of eating, check out our special feature on holiday recipes (see pages 16 to 23).

One of the big things I am looking forward to over the next month is moving into my new home here in Baldwin Park. We’re lucky to have had a house fall into our laps through a friend of a friend, and although we had to move somewhere else in Baldwin in the interim, we’re very excited to get into the new house before the holidays. To our neighbors who are (hopefully) reading this: We’re excited to meet you in the coming weeks!

Looking ahead from here, the trees of New Broad Street will start to show their holiday cheer with pretty snowflakes dripping from every branch. We are also inviting every resident to be a part of the Light Up Baldwin Park home decorating contest — something we started last year as a way for each of you to show your creativity. Better start planning your themes and décor. Be sure to encourage your neighbors to do the same, because who doesn’t love a little friendly competition?

On top of all that, we have a spectacular event coming up at the beginning of December to celebrate the holidays, and it even has a new name: Baldwin Park’s Winter Wonderland Extravaganza! Mark your calendars for Dec. 4 now, because this is going to be one of the best holiday events we’ve ever had with surprises at every turn.

Until next time, stay safe, stay well and remember, We Are Baldwin Park!
