A classic American musical is set to open the Garden Theatre’s upcoming show season.

“Ragtime the Musical” opens on August 23 and runs till September 15. Cost is $35 to $37, and discounts are available for youth, seniors, military and groups of 10 or more. Tickets can be purchased by calling 407-877-4736 x0, online at or in person at the Garden Theatre Box Office at 160 W. Plant St. Showtimes vary and additional details can be found online.

The show will be presented by Bob and Dianna Duffy. “Ragtime the Musical” takes place in New York City during the dawn of a new century. The story follows an upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a young musician from Harlem who are brought together by the promise of the future. Members of the audience will be asked to confront themes of violence, immigration and race with the Garden Theatre’s season opening production. In spite of that, the show also will be filled with courage, compassion and some of America’s greatest historical figures.
