Reptilian trespasser caught at Windermere Elementary School

A normal Sunday afternoon at Windermere Elementary School ended with a reptilian trespasser observing a game of baseball while trapped within a fenced-in area inside the portable section.

The unwelcome baseball fan was noticed by multiple parents and children who were walking toward the baseball fields. They promptly reported the alligator sighting to the Windermere Police Department, which sent Officers Jayson Bonk and George Gonzalez to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we attempted to keep the gator secured inside the fenced in area while we waited for an FWC Wildlife Trapper,” Bonk said. “The trapper was able to remove the gator that was estimated to be 5 1/2 feet.”

The FWC trapper safely secured the alligator and no harm was done, but Windermere Police Chief David Ogden urges residents to exercise vigilance when living near lakes.

“This is just a reminder that while it’s great to live among the lakes we have to always be aware of our surroundings,” Ogden said.
