WINTER GARDEN — One Winter Garden salon is hosting a new event just for dads and their special girls.

The Scarlett Olive Styling Lounge will host Braids & Beer from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at the salon, 31 S. Main St., Suite 1, Winter Garden.

“A lot of clients want lessons on how to do braids and how to do hair,” salon owner Carrie Czunas said. “So we thought, especially for dads, that this would be a really fun dad/daughter event just to get dads and daughters on a fun little date night.”

The fathers will learn how to do three basic hair styles — a ponytail, a braid and a ballet bun — as well as variations on each. They also will receive a gift bag including a wet brush, taming spray and hair ties so they can practice their new skills at home with their daughter.

Beer will be provided by the Crooked Can Brewing Company, Winter Garden’s new craft brewery at Plant Street Market. For their daughters, root beer and juices will be available along with snacks.

Czunas and her business partner, Stacey Regar — known as “Stan” by their clients — have been working together for 15 years. They met in a salon located in Metro- West and have been together ever since.

“We come as a unit all the time — one of us goes, the other one goes,” Czunas said.

She said that after working in salons for years, they never quite found one that fit their niche, so they decided to open their own.

“We opened this place kind of just to make ourselves happy and have a fun, cool salon that we can come work in that’s different and unique from other salons in the area,” she said.

Named after both of their daughters, the upstairs salon is built in a revamped apartment space and always has coffee, wine and snacks set out for clients.

“We care about our clients,” Czunas said. “It’s not just a business; it’s not just a money-making endeavor. We do this because it’s what we want to do. We’re here for them.”

“I know everyone says they’re good at what they do, but we really are good at what we do,” she said.

On Friday, at the end of the event, the girls will have the chance to strut down a small runway and show off their hair. By popular vote among the fathers, whichever dad had the best “do” will take home a six pack of beer.

“By the time dads leave, they will know how to execute those three basic styles for their daughters,” Czunas said.
