96-year-old Mayflower resident wins Best of Show at “Art for Generations”

In celebration of Active Aging Week (sponsored by the International Council on Active Aging) and in collaboration with the Winter Park Health Foundation and Rollins College, The Mayflower Retirement Community recently hosted “Art for Generations,” a juried art show featuring creative works by local residents 55 and older.

Resident Audrey Francini, a 96-year-old artist, teacher and Mayflower resident, won the “Best of Show” Award of $200 for her needlework piece, “Shokke Flowers.” A Merit Award of $100 was awarded to the following winners in each category: Painting – Dot Cline for “Basket of Peppers,” watercolor; Painting-Drawing – Eliza Pineau for “Self-portrait,” drawing; 3-D Mixed Media – Shirley Stanton for “Mother & Child;” and Photography – Marilyn Illsley for “Cereus-ly Radiant.”

The Mayflower Retirement Community received more than 150 entries from more than 50 artists. Entries were accepted from Mayflower residents and other members of the community, with approximately two-thirds of the submissions coming from nearby Central Florida residents. The free show, which took place on Thursday, Sept. 25, attracted 200-plus attendees over four hours.
