Driver Safety Classes

AARP Driver Safety Classes will be held July 25 and Aug. 29 at the Westchester Assisted Living Facility 558 N. Semoran Blvd. Winter Park. A class will also be held at the Bithlo Community Park/Center 18501 Washington St. Bithlo (off Colonial Drive) from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 12. Cost is $12 for AARP members or $14 for non-AARP members. It’s $5 for anyone who has worked or is currently working in the educational field — Teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, home schooling parent, teachers assistants, retired teachers etc. July and August are the two months of this promotion. There will be a free class for veterans and their spouses (widows/widowers) retired and currently serving. The classes are open to everyone 50+ for a discount on their vehicle insurance. JULY 7

Dance to the music of Armand Marchesano and his orchestra on Saturday July 7 from 7:30 p.m. to 10 pm. at the Beardall Center on Gore and Orange avenues. The cost is $4 per person, which includes coffee and dessert supplied by Beardall. Whether you enjoy swing, cha cha, waltzes or rumba, make your way over to Beardall for a fun evening. One Senior Place will host a free paper-shredding event from 9 a.m. to noon on July 16 at 715 Douglas Ave., Altamonte Springs.

JULY 19

Counsel for Caregivers Seminar Series is at the Orlando Public Library, Third Floor, Albertson Room, 101 E. Central Blvd, Orlando on Thursday, July 19th at 12:10 p.m. The topic is “Alzheimer’s and dementia 101.” Please RSVP to [email protected] or 407-836-7446.

The Jewish Pavilion and Vitas Hospice are pleased to offer a free grief support group for people who have lost loved ones (Spouses, children, parents etc.) The first session is on Thursday, July 26, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Chambrel at Island Lake, 160 Islander Court Longwood. Rabbi Maurice Kaprow from VITAS Innovative Hospice will lead the discussion. Like all Pavilion events, refreshments and socializing are part of the program. Taste the difference yourself and learn some simple tricks for tasty and inexpensive meals from Kendra Lott, publisher of Edible Orlando magazine. Bring your appetite!

AARP Driver Safety program – Next class is on July 11. Certificate of completion is good for a possible car insurance discount, renewable every three years. The Maitland Senior Center presents a program for elders on the second Friday of the month (July 13) that is staffed by counselors from S.H.I.N.E. (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders). The program provides free unbiased counseling about Medicare, Medigap, HMOs, Medicaid, prescriptions drug plans and long term care. Visit FloridaSHINE.org
