The Jewish Pavilion Emeritus hosted the vow renewal ceremony in celebration of Ida and Morris Miller’s 70th anniversary at Oviedo Assisted Living on Friday, June 17. Ida and Morris, both 92, were beaming. Morris delightedly pushed Ida’s wheelchair as they walked down the aisle and took their places under the chuppah (wedding canopy). In order to continue to host events like this, the Jewish Pavilion is holding its fourth annual “Walk in the Park” fundraiser on October 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cranes Roost Park. As part a lifelong learning program between Rollins College and The Mayflower Retirement Community, residents recently took part in a physics class that did some stargazing with some high-tech telescopes. Residents and students gathered at The Mayflower to analyze the stars.

Events at the Maitland Senior Center, 345 S. Maitland Ave.:

• Join John every Monday, Thursday, and Friday in July at 9:00 a.m. for Yoga. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring your own mat. Cost of the class is $2 to the teacher.

• Join Esther every Tuesday in July at 9:30 a.m. for Tai Chi classes. Cost of the class is $2 to the teacher.

• Join Harvey every Tuesday in July at 10:30 a.m. for Bridge lessons. Once you have a handle on the game, come back on Wednesday July 13 and July 27 at 10 a.m. for a morning of bridge with fellow players.

• Join Ann every Friday in July for Recorder classes. Beginning classes are held at 12:30 p.m. and intermediate classes are held at 1 p.m. Cost of the class is $2 to the teacher. Please call the Senior Center at 407-539-6251 for specifics on this class.

The Maitland Senior Center presents a program for elders on the second Friday of the month that is staffed by counselors from S.H.I.N.E. (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders). The program provides free unbiased counseling about Medicare, Medigap, HMOs, Medicaid, Prescriptions Drug Plans and Long Term Care. All counseling is first-come-first-served. Wii Sports allows residents at The Mayflower to have fun and improve balance, endurance and hand-eye coordination by virtually placing the user on the bowling lane, tennis court or baseball field.
