SERIES: Horizon West Roads Part 1: Reams Road

HORIZON WEST  As populations in Horizon West continue to grow, Orange County Traffic & Transportation continues trying to meet infrastructure needs, especially for roads. From practically the genesis of Horizon West in the 1990s, it has required new and expanded roadways to make way for one of the biggest development booms in the nation.
Officials have been forming studies and designs for adding lanes, realigning road segments, inserting signals and improving intersections. With the work, they hope to include trails, landscaping, safety enhancements, better drainage and lighting.
For Reams Road, engineers have focused on a roughly one-third-mile segment from Delmar Avenue to Taborfield Avenue, a project of about three miles from Taborfield Avenue to Summerlake Park Boulevard, Segment H-2 — which includes the westernmost 1,000 feet of Reams Road near its intersection with Seidel Road – and a traffic signal at the Walt Disney World North Service Access (Center Drive).
Funding includes monies from the INVEST project, impact fees and gas tax. Dates are subject to change.
