West Orange alum Bousfield, Ole Miss advance to College World Series

Former West Orange standout Auston Bousfield and the Ole Miss Rebels won the deciding game of a best-of-three Super Regional on Monday against Louisiana-Lafayette, 10-4, to

Bousfield, who was recently drafted by the San Diego Padres, went 2-for-6 in the deciding game, scoring once and driving in another run. The junior centerfielder for the Rebels is hitting .349 on the year and has six home runs to pair with 50 RBIs.

Ole Miss will take on Virginia on Sunday at 7 p.m. to open their appearance in the CWS in Omaha. It is the program’s first trip to the CWS since 1972. The game will air nationally on ESPN2.

+ Fontana to start in Texas League All-Star Game

Former West Orange Warrior Nolan Fontana was named a starter for the South Division team in the Texas League All-Star Game on Monday.

Fontana is a second baseman for the Corpus Christi Hooks, a Class AA affiliate of the Houston Astros, by whom he was drafted in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. Fontana, who played his college ball for the Florida Gators, is hitting .273 this season for the Hooks (31-32) with 23 RBIs.

The All-Star Game is scheduled for June 24, with the time to be determined, and will stream online at MiLB.TV.

Kids golf free at trio of local course through program

Celebration Golf Management is hosting its fourth annual Kids Play Free program now through October 4 at nine local courses, including two in Winter Garden and one in Windermere.

The Golden Bear Club in Windermere, Stoneybrook West Golf Club and the Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden will all participate in the program, which allows youth between ages 5 and 16 to play for free if accompanied by an adult golfer.

+ Ocoee brothers commit to university for soccer

Alex and Nick Baret of Ocoee have committed to play college soccer at Capital University.

The Baret brothers, who attended The First Academy, are part of an 18-player recruiting class for Capital, which went 9-8-3 in 2013.
