It’s out with the old and in with the new as the town of Oakland replaces its decades-old playground equipment with something updated and exciting for children.

The playground at Speer Park will be closed from May 17 to June 17 while the old equipment is taken out and the new equipment is installed.

Built in 2003, the old playground has served the community for many years but no longer meets current standards. Once erected, the new playground will provide a safe and fun place for families to gather and play.

Approved by the Town Commission on Jan. 12, 2021 following the adoption of the Speer Park Master Plan in early 2020, the new playground will include multiple slides, tunnels and climbers installed on a rubberized surface.

During the one-month installation period, residents can use the playground at Pollard Park, 425 Hull Ave.
