A senior at Trinity Prep, Adam Wehr plays the vital role of anchor on the Saints boys bowling team thanks to his strong game and composure under pressure. But when he isn’t on the lanes, Wehr enjoys his time dominating in Super Smash Bros. and watching Bayern Munich play.
One day at Aloma Bowl, my mom noticed that there was a deal where kids bowl free — this was five years ago — and she was like, “Good deal, I’ll take it.” I really enjoyed it, and I would do it every day, and the people there noticed that and asked if I wanted to join a league.
I love so much about bowling, but I like the culture of the sport. It’s much more relaxing … but we do take it very seriously as a legitimate sport.
My highlight for bowling at Trinity Prep was last year, bowling at districts. It was our first time ever — in our history — making it in the top four, which is a big deal. And we took out the best team in the state (Apopka).
Bowling — kind of like golf — is a very, very emotional and mental kind of sport. The best advice I’ve had is to keep your highs and lows in check. When you’re doing well, don’t get that too much of a boost — keep calm. But if you’re doing poorly, don’t feel down.
I’d love to bowl collegiately, but the problem is that NCAA men’s bowling is not recognized — because of that, I don’t get many scholarships. I’m still hoping to bowl professionally.
