The Winter Garden Squeeze made sure their game on July 4 against Sanford kept in line with the spirit of the holiday by having one of our local heroes throw out the game’s first pitch.

Army veteran Marcus Griffin, an Oakland resident through the Home at Last program, tossed out the first pitch with Winter Garden City Commissioner Bobby Olszewski serving as the catcher.

Griffin was severely injured in Iraq while serving our country as a K-9 Specialist and lives in Oakland with his wife and three sons, who also attended the game that day.

The Squeeze fell to Sanford in extra innings, 8-4.
