In 1952, the Winter Garden Times reported that W.B. Burch had purchased a palatial home for his wife and three children, Claire, Joe and Selby. The purchase price was $100,000.

The home was located four miles west of Winter Garden at Edgewater Beach on Johns Lake. It was surrounded by about 50 acres of land, and six to eight acres were in azalea gardens, trees, shrubbery and flowers. Almost every variety of citrus fruit was found in one section.

A dock, boat house and speed boat came with the deal.

The house was built of Florida modern traditional architecture, featuring an enormous screen porch, a rear patio and front sun terrace. This two-story mansion was 110 feet across the front and two one-story wings on the back, and the floors were of walnut and oak. The patio, garden and lily pool were built between the wings.

Burch came to Winter Garden in 1912 as a boy from South Carolina. His wife was born in Winter Garden.
