Threatening call causes lockdown at Windermere High School

Windermere High School went under lockdown Friday morning due to a threatening call, Windermere High Principal Doug Guthrie wrote on the school’s Facebook page.

Guthrie announced the lockdown on Facebook at about 11:10 am. At approximately 11:30, Guthrie wrote that the lockdown was lifted.

“Every classroom was checked,” Guthrie wrote. “Every hallway and bathroom was checked to verify that there was no threat on our campus.”

Orange County Public Schools spokeswoman Shari L. Bobinski wrote in an email that the threat was “called into law enforcement.”

Jeff Williams, public information officer with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, said the incident is still under investigation. Williams added that he would release more information as it becomes available.

“I can’t give the specific details of the threat yet,” Williams said. “But we felt it to be a very serious threat. We’re taking things very seriously. We did a room-by-room and building-by-building search of the school.”

The lockdown was the third at Windermere High since the school opened in August, with the first two being caused by hoaxes.
