Upcoming Dr. P. Phillips YMCA summer sports camps

Summer is here, and with it arrives camp season.

With summer now in full swing, the Dr. P. Phillips YMCA is offering a variety of sports camps for young athletes throughout the area.

Below are camps that will take place over the next couple of months:

 

BASEBALL CAMP

Details: Baseball camp at the Dr. P. Phillips YMCA is designed to teach young baseball players the fundamentals of the game. Participants will learn how to catch, throw, bat and field in a fun team atmosphere. The focus of the camp is to have fun, meet new friends and play in a non-competitive environment.  Camp dates: July 1-5 (No camp July 4) (first through third grade) Tuition: $185 members/$310 non-members Registration: Ongoing; email [email protected] to sign up. BASKETBALL CAMP

Details: Campers learn the basic fundamentals of basketball such as dribbling, shooting, passing and basic principles of defense. Individual skills and team concepts are taught in a recreational and safe environment. Camp dates: June 10-14 and July 22-26 (first through third grade), June 3-7 and Aug. 5-9 (fourth through sixth grade) Tuition: $185 members/$310 non-members Registration: Ongoing; email [email protected] to sign up. FLAG FOOTBALL CAMP

Details: Campers will learn positions, formations, types of play, and the fundamentals of football while emphasizing good sportsmanship, healthy competition, safety and fun. Camp dates: June 17-21 and July 29-Aug. 2 (first through third grade), June 10-14 (fourth through sixth grade) Tuition: $185 members/$310 non-members Registration: Ongoing; email [email protected] to sign up. FLOOR HOCKEY CAMP

Details: From basic puck work and shooting to successful stickhandling and passing techniques, kids will have a great time learning floor hockey fundamentals at this camp. Campers will play both indoor and outdoor hockey, learning basic skills and concepts. FUN & FITNESS CAMP

Details: Campers will learn about all aspects of being healthy, with a mixture of games, routines and educational exercise. Participants will end camp with a new found appreciation for strong arms, legs, hearts and lungs. FUTSAL (INDOOR SOCCER) CAMP

Details: In this recreational sports camp designed to keep your campers happy and healthy, we will spend time learning and improving their soccer skills with a new twist. Skill-building drills and scrimmages are all parts of development your campers’ athleticism. Camp dates: June 24-28 (first through third grade), July 1-5 (No camp on July 5) (fourth through sixth grade) Tuition: $185 members/$310 non-members Registration: Ongoing; email [email protected] to sign up. MULTI-SPORT CAMP

Details: Campers will play flag football, soccer, basketball and other sports. Multi-sports camp is designed to teach children sports and the value of exercise. SOCCER CAMP

Details: Learn the most popular sport in the world and improve your skills in this fun-filled recreational camp. Campers learn the rules of the game and get a kick start on the important concept of team building as they learn skills, do drills and play scrimmages to get a feel for the flow of soccer. Camp dates: June 3-7 and July 15-19 (first through third grade), July 29-Aug. 2 (fourth through sixth grade) Tuition: $185 members/$310 non-members Registration: Ongoing; email [email protected] to sign up. TENNIS CAMP

Details: Camp is designed to help campers understand and grow with the basic skills of tennis. Lessons will focus on serving, rallies, scoring and playing points. The camp uses equipment and lesson plans from the USTA’s Next Generation Tennis program. VOLLEYBALL CAMP

Details: Learn the fundamentals of serving, bumping and setting in a fun atmosphere. Volleyball promotes sportsmanship and team work, as well as individual development. This fun sport has many health benefits, which include strengthening the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, and improving hand-eye coordination and reflexes.
