Week 10 Preview: Warriors can clinch district championship with victory

WINTER GARDEN  The West Orange Warriors can clinch a second consecutive district championship on Friday when they travel to Wekiva High School to take on the Mustangs. 

The Warriors (7-1, 2-0 in Class 8A, District 4) have defeated opponents by an average of 29.5 points per game since falling to Jacksonville’s Trinity Christian Academy on Sept. 18. The Mustangs (5-3, 1-1 in 8A-4), meanwhile, are on a two-game losing streak after enjoying a five-game winning streak. Wekiva was thumped by Apopka, 43-6, and was upset by Ocoee on Oct.22, 16-12.

West Orange would complete a clean sweep in district play with a victory, making the district picture nice and clear — Apopka, which is a heavy-favorite against Evans, being the presumed district runner-up.

If the Warriors were to lose, however, it would plunge the district into a three-way tie; West Orange, Wekiva and Apopka would each be 2-1 and own a tiebreaker over one of the other two teams. This would require a three-way playoff to determine the district’s champion and runner-up on Monday, Nov. 2.
