Wildcats continue to dominate

Winter Park decimated Cypress Creek over the course of four quarters Friday night, winning by a 43-0 rout.

The Wildcats had entered the game widely favored to win by a large margin, having won three straight compared to Cypress Creek’s four straight losses by a deficit more than 100 combined points.

Once again, it was a showcase for Wildcats quarterback Sam Richardson, who easily marched down the field repeatedly in the first half. By early in the second half, the Wildcats already had two scores and had prevented the Bears from crossing the 50 yard line.

Winter Park (4-0) continued to pile on an impressive offensive record this season adding to 135 points combined in four games. The team’s defense, which has already proven famously stingy so far, recorded its first shutout of the year, after allowing a maximum of 17 points in three previous games.

Now the Wildcats are looking ahead to a Friday night showdown against one of the tougher teams in the area. Timber Creek showed some strong defense early on in the season, but has let scores mount against more offensively oriented teams including Wekiva and Oviedo.

Despite holding their opponents to just more than 20 points per game, the Wolves are 1-3 this season, looking for a rebound. The Wolves will have to do it at Larry Gergley Stadium in Winter Park, starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Edgewater

The Eagles have been cooling their heels in a bye week following a two-game winning streak. Now 2-2, Edgewater hosts Liberty (3-2) at home.

Edgewater has struggled to find its offensive groove this year, but has improved every game leading into their season-lifting turnaround. Before their win streak, they’d lost the first two games of the season by broad margins.

In their last game, the Eagles edged St. Cloud 20-17 despite allowing 171 yards in the air from quarterback Phillip Steinmetz.

Now they take on a charged up Liberty team that blew out Lake Howell 48-20 a week ago.

Lake Howell

The Silver Hawks are coping with their fifth loss despite their second best offensive performance of the season.

Lake Howell entered the game against Liberty already commanding the best losing streak in the Seminole Athletic Conference, allowing a minimum of 5 touchdowns against every opponent they’d faced so far.

They’d take a week off before facing Colonial, in perhaps their best chance at a win all season.

Trinity Prep

The Saints lost some momentum after falling to The First Academy 27-20 Friday night. Trinity (3-2) had been on a two-game winning streak leading into the fifth week of the season.

Quarterback J.J. Wartski still grabbed some of the spotlight with a 131-yard passing performance. Running back Ryan Hinkley picked up 108 yards on his own.

Coming up this week, the Saints host John Carroll Catholic starting at 7 p.m. Friday.
