It’s been a week since the Wildcats narrowly escaped Timber Creek with a 34-29 squeaker win — their narrowest this season. But the road trip for the 6-0 Wildcats isn’t over yet. They head to face Hagerty this Friday.

The Huskies (2-4) have struggled this season, losing their first four games. But their last two have been surprises.

First they beat Orange Park University on Sept. 27 in a 24-21 shocker for their first win of the year.

It wasn’t a fluke. The next game they faced an undefeated Bishop Moore team in the Hornets’ stadium and scored four unanswered touchdowns in the first half to take a 28-0 lead. Quarterback Jeff Driskel would go on to complete a 73-yard TD pass to Tristan Tucker and race 71 yards for a touchdown scramble of his own. By the time the Hornets put two scores together, it was already too late.

The Wildcats will need to stop the Huskies’ offense if they want to win. Last season, commanded by Driskel, the Huskies only lost once when they scored more than two touchdowns. But those high-scoring games were few and far between.

The Wildcats have proven themselves in tight games, winning all but two of their games by a touchdown or less. They tend to have high-scoring games regardless. Only one time this season were the Wildcats held to less than 20 points. They still won.

The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 18.

Edgewater

The only positive for the Eagles so far has been less heartbreaking losses of late. With an 0-7 record, Edgewater has come close, but not crossed into the win column. Lately that’s gotten worse. In their first five games they lost all of them by a touchdown or less. In their last two, they’ve lost by an increasing margin.

They travel to Lake Minneola for a 7 p.m. Oct. 18 showdown.
