For the second consecutive year, the Florida Little League Softball Minors (ages 8-10) State Champion is Windermere Little League.

The young ladies from Windermere closed the three-day event in Tampa with a pair of exciting, one-run wins July 7 and July 8 — against Viera Suntree and Inverness by scores of 4-3 and 5-4, respectively.

Afterward, manager Mark Wolsonovich praised the total-team effort that got Windermere over the hump to win the State of Florida Championship and headed to the Southeast Regional in Tennessee.

“I’ve never been a part of a team where all 13 girls contributed — everybody contributed,” Wolsonovich said. “All 13 girls did something to win those games.”

The team has one returning player from last year’s team that won the state championship — Ariana Lara — with the rest of the members of that team moving on to either the 11-year-old or 12-year-old teams this summer.

Windermere moves on to the Tournament of State Champions, beginning July 20 in Clarksville, Tenn. With this being the final stop for this particular age group, Wolsonovich hopes his girls will embrace the opportunity and have some fun.

“That’s final level — the pressure is off,” he said. “We just go out there and let them play.”

The Windermere Little League Minors Softball team includes Alex Wolsonovich, Ariana Lara, Riley Winters, Savvy Sotto, Lizzie Ozim, Mackenzie Duncan, Carlee Fitch, Faith Fazzone, Delaney Crockett, Danika Spinogatti, Sarah Vance, Katherine Johnson and Addison Walker.
