Winter Garden City Commission meeting set for June 28

City leaders will take action on the second reading of an ordinance that would allow for the construction of a residential development along East Oakland Avenue.

If approved, Ordinance 18-23 would rezone a 9.18-acre property generally located on the south side of East Oakland Avenue, west of Tildenville School Road and north of West Colonial Drive from R-1 (single-family residential district) to Planned Unit Development (PUD). The property has been labeled as the Oakland Hills PUD.

Rezoning the property allows for the development of 17 single-family homes. A maximum of nine houses can be built with an optional accessory dwelling unit such as a garage apartment or in-law suite, according to the ordinance.

Prior to taking action on the ordinance, commissioners will hear presentations from both Fire Chief Matt McGrew and Police Chief George Brennan. McGrew will swear in a new firefighter and acknowledge the promotion of two firefighters. Brennan will swear in a new police officer.

Under regular business, commissioners will take action on an interlocal agreement pertaining to police dispatch services with the Town of Oakland.

City leaders will consider approving a bid and award a contract to Cathcart Construction Inc. for the water reuse distribution retrofit phase 3 for Reserve at Black Lake, Harbor Crest, Lexington and Rock Creek subdivisions. The project converts 221 existing single-family homes from potable irrigation to reuse irrigation. The cost of the project amounts to $1,742,015 and includes a 10% contingency.

Commissioners also will consider approving a bid and awarding a contract to T.D. Thomson Construction Company for the Carriage Pointe Aquifer Recharge System project. The system is a component of the overall stormwater capture and reuse project under construction at Bradford Park and at the Crest Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant. Cost of the project is $125,061.17 and includes a 10% contingency.

Commissioners will then consider approving the annual All American Kids Parade and Breakfast on July 4.

Finally, city leaders will make appointments to the Code Enforcement Board, General Employee Pension Board and Community Redevelopment Advisory Board.
