Winter Garden Commission meeting set for Oct. 13

Three things to watch for at tonight’s Winter Garden City Commission meeting: 

Dillard Street corridor project

Tonight, Winter Garden commissioners will vote on the first reading for a proposal to amend the Winter Garden Comprehensive plan to include policies regarding the Dillard Street Corridor project. The new policies would modify an existing bicycle and pedestrian policy pertaining to the one-mile segment of Dillard Street from East Plant Street to State Road 50.  The policy aims to reduce the street travel lanes, provide roundabouts at key intersections in place of traffic signals, install wide sidewalks, street parking and a two-way bike lane. 

Forbidding security bars on doors and windows

Commissioners will vote on the second reading of an ordinance to prohibit security bars, grilles and grates on windows and doors that are visible from streets or public right of ways for commercial or industrial properties. The ordinance would require all properties that currently have bars with legally installed security bars to remove them by Oct. 31, 2021.

Park & Plant PUD

The commission will vote on the second reading of an ordinance to rezone 1.15 acres located at the southeast corner of West Plant Street and South Park Avenue to a planned unit development named the Park & Plant PUD. A developer has applied to purchase the property and build 24 townhomes and five different two to three-story buildings.  One of those buildings will have seven townhomes facing West Plant Street that will be allowed, through special exceptions, to use a portion as office space.
