Winter Garden local earns first place for her weight class at the USA Powerlifting Central Florida Open

This was Esperanza Otero's first time competing at the meet, where she hit three personal records.

Mili's Gym athlete Esperanza Otero, 22, competed for the first time at the USA Powerlifting Central Florida Open meet Saturday, Aug. 13, in Downtown Orlando. 

Otero completed a personal record for all three of her lifts. She squatted 137.5 kg., benched 82.5 kg. and deadlifted 155 kg. for a total of 375 kg. 

With her lifts, Otero placed first in the Open and Junior divisions for the 82.5 kg. weight class category.
