Winter Garden residents who feel like their city is a great place for families — specifically young families — got some validation this week.
Winter Garden and Oviedo were the only two Central Florida cities who made the cut for a list of "Best Cities for Young Families in Florida" from NerdWallet.com. Oviedo weighed in at No. 2 and Winter Garden was ranked No. 4. Pace, a city near Pensacola, came in as No. 1 on the list.
The list took several things into account, including home affordability, prosperity and growth, quality of education and family friendliness. Medium and smaller size communities seemed to be a theme, per the list's findings, as the average population of the 10 cities listed was 32,347 — below the state average of 53,324.
Winter Garden was cited for being a place with economic opportunity and a quality community. The article noted that, since 1999, median family incomes have grown in Winter Garden by 69.88% — the most in the state — and also mentioned that three in 10 households in the city are families with children.
