Winter Garden providing sandbags ahead of storm

The facility is closed Sunday for bag assembly but will reopen Monday at 8 a.m.

The city of Winter Garden is offering 10 free sandbags each to residents preparing for Tropical Storm Ian, which is expected to hit Central Florida by mid-week. Bags are available at the Public Services Complex, 880 W. Bay St., Winter Garden.

Residents must show an ID or proof of residency. City staff is onsite to load the bags in the vehicles.

The facility opened Saturday afternoon to give out sandbags but is closed Sunday, Sept. 25, so staff can assemble more bags.

The facility will be open several days this week: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, through Wednesday, Sept. 28. More dates could be added once the storm’s path is determined.
