A Winter Park-area teenager who deputies say confessed to fatally stabbing his mother has been deemed incompetent to stand trial.

On February 28, law enforcement arrested Michael King, 18, and charged him with fatally stabbing his mother, Nancy Noone. King confessed to the crime, according to deputies. The event occurred inside their home at 633 Cornwall Road, just outside Winter Park city limits near Winter Park High School and Brookshire Elementary School.

According to court records, three mental health experts have since evaluated King at the Orange County Jail and deemed him incompetent due to mental illness.

The judge's ruling has King being directed to the Department of Children and Families to be placed in a mental health treatment facility. A competency hearing is set for October.
