An office building project in Winter Park has some residents fearing that their neighborhood will become a busy route for cut-through traffic.

Winter Park City Commissioners will have a chance to review and cast a vote on a project for a two-story office building near the intersection of Lee Road and U.S. 17-92.

The proposal by V3 Capital Group LLC has already been met with some pushback — several locals who live in the neighborhoods along U.S. 17-92 across the street from Winter Park Village expressed concerns during the Tuesday, March 5, Winter Park Planning and Zoning Board meeting.

The residents’ concerns focused primarily on the parking lot, because it would connect Gay Road and Trovillion Avenue to the south.

Residents feared the configuration would create that unwanted route for more cut-through traffic within the residential area as drivers try to avoid the intersection of Lee Road and U.S. 17-92.

Despite the issues raised by residents, the Planning and Zoning Board concluded the project met code and is a better alternative than what could be built there. The board approved the item by a vote of 6-1.
