City helps stop spread of disease

On Oct. 3 inside the bay of Fire Station 61, the city of Winter Park showcased the first ambulances in Central Florida equipped with on-board decontamination units for the patient transport area of the vehicle. These systems are designed to help stop the spread of disease and infection from patient to patient, as well as the treating firefighters.

With the recent news of Ebola entering our country, this revolutionary new system will mitigate the threat of this disease, healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), and even contagious pathogens such as H1N1 influenza (swine flu) to the city’s first responders, hospitals, healthcare workers and citizens. This system was produced and installed through a partnership with AeroClave, LLC.

Fixed decontamination systems like these have also been installed in specific areas of the city’s police department to help maintain the safety of the personnel working in these areas. Winter Park has continued to demonstrate its commitment to public safety though its implementation of these cutting edge technologies.
