Save the date: City Hall grand re-opening

The city will be celebrating the grand re-opening of City Hall on Monday, Aug. 27, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The renovation of City Hall has been a long, yet extremely productive process. The new City Hall is now more energy efficient, and has been reconstructed to create a more welcoming experience for the many visitors who do business in our city. We thank you for your patience and endurance during the entire process. More information will be published in next week’s column regarding this special event. Stay tuned.

City Commission meeting

There will be a City Commission meeting Monday, Aug. 13, at 3:30 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers located at 401 S. Park Ave. Below are a few topics of interest:

Conditional Use – An additional two year extension granted to the Ye Olde Bric Condominium property at 125 S. Interlachen Ave. to permit the redevelopment of the property and the construction of a four-story, six-unit residential condominium building of 23,500 square feet with underground parking.

• First reading of the ordinance amending Chapter 58 “Land Development Code,” Section 58-65 “R-1AAA Lakefront District” and Section 58-66 “R-1AA and R-1A Districts” by adding a special side setback option for narrow lots.

Women’s safety class

The Winter Park Police Department and the Victim Service Center of Central Florida will host a free women’s safety awareness class Thursday, Aug. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Winter Park Police Department located at 500 N. Virginia Ave. This class is for ladies only and is limited to the first 25 who sign up. There is no special dress or equipment needed. Ages 14 and older are welcome. You @@must@@ sign up to attend. Espresso your thoughts at CoffeeTalk

Please join Vice Mayor Steven Leary for a cup of coffee Thursday, Aug. 16, from 8 to 9 a.m., at the Winter Park Welcome Center, located at 151 W. Lyman Ave., at his annual CoffeeTalk gathering. This is the city’s seventh year in holding these annual CoffeeTalk sessions for residents that have a latte on their minds or some beans to grind.

This is your opportunity to speak with Vice Mayor Leary in an informal environment and ask any questions related to city business. Special thanks to Palmano’s Café, Coffee & Wine Bar for donating the coffee. Hope to see you there!

Early voting at the Library

Early voting for the Florida Primary at the Winter Park Public Library began Saturday, Aug. 4, and runs through Saturday, Aug. 11. Voting will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Only Orange County registered voters can early vote at the library. Voters must bring photo and signature identification. All questions about voting, ID, etc. must be directed to the Supervisor of Elections at 407-836-2070. The Florida Primary is Tuesday, Aug. 14, and all voting will take place at local precincts, @@not@@ at the Library. The library is located at 460 E. New England Ave.

City Blood Drive

The Big Red Bus will be in front of City Hall on Monday, Aug. 20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for anyone interested in donating blood. City Hall is located at 401 S. Park Ave. A critical number of voluntary donations are required every day to meet the need for blood. To donate you must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110 pounds, and be in good health. All donors must bring photo ID. For more information, please call 407-599-3506 or visit floridabloodcenters.org. Thank you for doing your part to help Florida Blood Centers.
