Now accepting applications for city boards

Service on city boards is one of the best ways to stay involved in city government. By being part of the process you can help make Winter Park a better place to live, work and play. Depending on your area of interest, the city offers about 20 city boards for you to consider. If you are interested in applying, please visit cityofwinterpark.org > Government > Boards and submit your application online.

Send us your Dinner on the Avenue pictures

The inclement weather and reports of serious storms throughout the area forced the city to cancel the 11th annual Dinner on the Avenue, which would have been held on April 21. Many attendees decided to not let the weather dampen their spirits and continued with their plans at select locations. The city would like to share photographs of your Dinner on the Avenue gatherings on the city’s official Facebook page. If you would like to be included, please email your photographs in JPG format by Thursday, May 10, at 5 p.m. to [email protected]. Help us show that regardless of rain or shine, Dinner on the Avenue attendees will continue to dine. Thanks for helping us celebrate this annual event!

Call for artists extended

The city of Winter Park and the Winter Park Public Art Advisory Board announce that the Art on the Green 2012 “call for artists” deadline has been extended. Art on the Green 2012, a juried exhibition of eight sculptures in downtown Winter Park presented by the city of Winter Park and Massey Services Inc., will run from Saturday, Sept. 1, through Friday, March 1, 2013.

Olga Viso, Rollins College graduate and executive director of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, one of the most important contemporary art museums in the United States, will serve as guest curator for Art on the Green 2012.

Eligible artists nationwide are encouraged to submit entries for the competitive selection process between now and the updated deadline of Friday, June 1. Complete details regarding artist entries may be found by visiting the home page of the city’s official website at cityofwinterpark.org and clicking on the Art on the Green button.

Winning entries to be included in the exhibition will be announced on Friday, June 22. Each selected artist will receive a $1,000 honorarium. There will also be a $500 “People’s Choice” award presented to the artist with most the votes from the public during the exhibition.

Purchasing receives Excellence Award

The city of Winter Park’s Purchasing Division has been chosen to receive the Award of Excellence in Public Procurement. The award was established to recognize organizational excellence in procurement, and recognize agencies that meet or exceed benchmarks and best practices in the procurement profession. Winter Park is one of only 10 agencies to receive the award in Florida. The award will be received in May by the city’s Purchasing Manager Carrie Woodell at the Florida Association of Public Procurement Officials 45th annual Conference and Trade Show in Tampa.

The Excellence in Public Procurement Awards Program is sponsored by the Florida Association of Procurement Officials Inc. The award program is designed to measure innovation, professionalism, e-procurement, productivity and leadership attributes of the procurement function.
