City Hall Closed

City Hall will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day. There will be no Waste Pro services on Labor Day as well. Household, yard and recycling services will resume on your next regularly scheduled pick up day. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

CoffeeTalk with Commissioner Carolyn Cooper

CoffeeTalk featuring Commissioner Cooper will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, at 8 a.m., at the Winter Park Welcome Center located at 151 W. Lyman Ave. Now in its 11th season, CoffeeTalk has become the place for citizens that have “a latte beans to grind” or simply to “espresso their thoughts.” The purpose of Coffeetalk is to give citizens the opportunity to talk to their city leaders in a more casual, informal environment, and avoid the stage fright that is often experienced at large meetings. Please make plans to join Commissioner Cooper for a cup of conversation and great coffee provided by Barnies CoffeeKitchen.

Golfers will experience drastically noticeable different playability on the newly renovated course that offers more challenges to their game, such as:

• Sand traps, contours, undulations, and varying elevations have replaced the previously flat landscape.

• Tee boxes were moved to line the player down the fairway, aiming their drive away from the roads and moving vehicles.

• Greens are now three times larger than what players have experienced in the past, which offers new pin placement opportunities and requires new strategies.

The golf course was designed with the avid player in mind, but is just as perfect for the beginner as a great place to learn the game, especially on the new putting course that is now a part of the new golf experience.

The course officially closed for renovations March 1, 2016. Field crews and course designers physically removed all of the 50+ year-old sod and exposed the surface to its core. New irrigation was installed that simultaneously fertilizes while watering the grounds. In April, the sprigging of the course began and was done by hand as an alternative to planting seeds. Over 800 bushels of Bermuda grass (type 419) sprigs were used per acre on this 44-acre property and took one month to complete. The result is lush, green grass that will help the consistency of the hitting surface as well as the speed of the greens.
