JULY 11 CITY COMMISSION MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

There was a City Commission meeting held on July 11 at 3:30 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers. Below are a few highlights of decisions made:

MAYOR’S REPORT

  • A proclamation declaring Saturday, July 16, and Saturday Sept. 17, “Playdays 2011” was presented promoting healthy lifestyles and participating in the national “Let’s Move” campaign.

  • Howard Hadden was presented the Employee of the Second Quarter 2011 award.

  • The board appointments were approved as presented.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

  • The announcement of a Public Hearing for a Brownfield Designation request for 1240 Miller Ave. and 1111 South Orlando Ave. was made. A public hearing will take place regarding this designation on Monday, July 25, as part of the next City Commission agenda.

NON-ACTION ITEMS

  • The city’s permitting process has been streamlined making it quicker and more efficient when permitting new construction projects.

  • The Fiscal Year 2012 Proposed Budget was presented and can be viewed online at www.cityofwinterpark.org > Info At Your Fingertips > Budget documents. A City Commission budget work session was scheduled for Monday, July 18 at 3:30 p.m., in City Hall Commission Chambers.

CONSENT AGENDA

  • The minutes of June 27 were approved with a modification.

  • The permanent drainage easement between Presbyterian Retirement Communities, Inc., and the city was approved [Winter Park Towers].

  • The early morning concrete pours at the Winter Park Towers construction project located at 1111 South Lakemont Ave. was approved with an amendment.

  • The Pole License Joint Use Agreement with EMBARQ Florida, Inc., d/b/a/ CenturyLink was approved and the mayor was authorized to execute the agreement.

  • The various change orders, contracts and agreements were approved (for a complete list of purchases and agreements, please access the Commission Agenda Packet at www.cityofwinterpark.org > Government > City Commission > Agenda Packets).

ACTION ITEMS REQUIRING DISCUSSION

  • The recommendation for temporary partial hiatus for water and sewer impact fees was approved with modifications.

PUBLIC HEARINGS

  • The resolution regarding the State of Florida Department of Transportation Local Agency Program (LAP) Agreement 427966-1-58-01 for the construction of pedestrian improvements along Howell Branch Road was approved.

  • The resolution establishing an emergency surcharge for taxicabs was approved.

  • The resolution requesting that the Florida Elections Commission investigate an alleged deliberate violation of the Florida Elections Code in the March 8 Winter Park Commission election was approved with two amendments.

CONTINUING THE COMMUNITY CONVERSATION - THIS TIME ONLINE!

Recently the city of Winter Park convened a series of face-to-face meetings called COMMUNITY Conversations at a variety of locations where residents, the business community, civic and religious organizations, and other community stakeholders shared their hopes and aspirations for the future of the city. Many thoughtful and creative ideas were shared throughout the process and are posted on the homepage of the city’s website under the COMMUNITY Conversations button.

Knowing how challenging it can be to attend public meetings, the city is continuing its COMMUNITY Conversations with you, this time online. For a two-week period from Monday, July 11 through Monday, July 25, you have a chance to join in the conversation and let us know what you think.

Regardless of where you are or the time of day, access to the Internet is all you need to share what is on your mind regarding the treasures, values and future needs for Winter Park:

VIEW CITY FLAG ENTRIES ONLINE

The City Commission invited the community to help design the official city flag. Twelve entries were submitted and can be viewed at www.cityofwinterpark.org by clicking the City Flag Entry button. The city’s Public Art Advisory Board will rank the submissions on Tuesday, July 26 then present their rankings to the City Commission on Monday, Aug. 8. The City Commission will vote on their No. 1 choice at the Aug. 8 City Commission meeting.
