• Resolution - State of Florida Department of Transportation Joint Participation Agreement 426791-1-94-01 for the reconstruction of the Winter Park Train Station/Amtrak Station.

• First reading of the ordinance authorizing lease purchase agreement not to exceed $1,750,000 for the acquisition of Trane Air Conditioning and Lighting System.

PERFECT SUMMER CAMP FOR NATURE LOVERS

What are wetlands and uplands? What plants attract butterflies and birds? What is a habitat? How do animals and plants support each other? How do you grow an organic garden? How does wind make electricity?

Why is it important to understand the answers to these questions? Mead Botanical Garden’s summer camps for children ages 9-13 will answer these questions in a curriculum designed to complement Sunshine State Standards for environmental sciences. Choose from two camps:

1. “Young Naturalists” begins on Monday, June 27, and campers will experience the wonder of discovery as they explore Florida’s ecosystems and the fascinating plants and animals that live here.

2. “Earth Defenders” begins on Monday, June 20, and campers will have fun becoming environmental stewards and learning the importance of conserving and preserving as they investigate their impact on the natural world.

Mead Botanical Garden’s summer camps are designed to take the mystery out of nature, engender competence in the children, and instill in them the belief that they can be agents for positive change — all while furthering and fulfilling the mission to nurture a 75-year-old urban oasis and to protect and preserve a botanical garden emphasizing nature, sustainability and environmental learning.

WINTER PARK FEATURED FOR NATIONAL AUDIENCE

The month of June has become a busy month of national entertainment and educational interest for the city of Winter Park. See the following Winter Park stars that have recently shined in the lens of a new travel pilot program, a popular reality television show and an educational publishing company:

Going Places - The Winter Park Farmers’ Market, the Winter Park Boat Tour and 4 Rivers BBQ were featured destinations for the filming of Going Places, a pilot travel show that will highlight things to do and places to eat as an alternative to the theme parks in the Orlando area. The filming for Going Places was held on June 4. A Web cast of the show will be available for viewing by the end of June at www.LOLNTV.com under the General Channel.
