APRIL 11 COMMISSION MEETING TOPICS OF INTEREST

There will be a City Commission meeting on Monday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m., in City Hall Commission Chambers. Below are a few topics of interest:

• MAYOR’S REPORT:

  • Presentation from Orange County Property Appraiser Bill Donegan.
  • Presentation of check from the Kenneth and Rachel Murrah City of Winter Park Tree Fund.
  • Proclamation - Toastmasters Awareness Day.
  • Thanks to city staff for their work during our recent storm.
  • Citizen board applications and appointments - Encourage applications to be submitted by Sunday, April 24, for initial appointments in May 2011.

• NON-ACTION ITEMS:

  • Presentation on Economic Development Plan.

• CONSENT AGENDA:

  • Approve the minutes of March 28.
  • Approve the Park Avenue Recycling Program and authorize the purchase of 10 recycling containers to be placed in strategic locations along Park Avenue.
  • Approve various purchases and contracts (for a complete list of purchases and contracts, access the Commission Agenda Packet at www.cityofwinterpark.org > Government > City Commission > Agenda Packets).

• ACTION ITEMS REQUIRING DISCUSSION:

  • Complete streets/pedestrian safe proposed resolution: presentation by Dan Burden.
  • Presentation and update of the Mead Garden Master Plan and approve the proposed funding for the initial improvements to the “Environmental Learning Center.”
  • Appointment of Vice Mayor.
  • City advisory boards.
  • City facilities discussion/action (follow-up from Strategic Planning Session).
  • Community conversations (follow-up from Strategic Planning Session).

• PUBLIC HEARINGS:

  • Second reading of the ordinance regulating the sale of metals to secondary metal recyclers.
  • Second reading of the ordinance repealing Fleet Peeples Park fees.
  • Second reading of the ordinance repealing City Commissioner salaries.
  • First reading of the ordinance regarding a moratorium regulating pain management clinics.
  • Adoption of fee schedule effective Sunday, May 1.

• COMMISSION REPORTS:

  • Mayor Bradley

• Create consistent hours of operation for establishments within the city of Winter Park. Review ordinances/discussion.

• Resolution in support of SunRail.

• Tree Survey.

• Resolution governing communications by advisory board members and elected officials.

LAKE BALDWIN TRAIL & TREES FOR PEACE

On Tuesday, April 12, at 11:15 a.m., the cities of Winter Park and Orlando will hold an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the Lake Baldwin Trail. In addition, the City of Winter Park and the Multifaith Education Project will also be holding their 8th annual Trees For Peace Interfaith Tree Planting Project. Mayor Kenneth W. Bradley, Orlando District 3 City Commissioner Robert Stuart, Louise Franklin Sheehy, director of the Multifaith Education Project and other elected officials will be in attendance at the event that will take place near the walkway just south of the main entrance to Fleet Peeples Park at 2000 S. Lakemont Ave.


STORM DEBRIS PICK UP

Waste Pro will have additional trucks to pick up storm debris on your regular yard waste pick-up day. Please make sure debris is placed curbside by 7 a.m. If a special pick up for unusually heavy limbs needs to be scheduled, please call 407-774-0800.


STREET CLOSURE

The city of Winter Park will host the 10th annual Dinner on the Avenue on Saturday, April 16, at 6 p.m. Tickets and tables have sold out and a record-breaking crowd of 1,200+ diners are expected to attend this unique social event.

Park Avenue will be closed to all thru traffic from Morse Boulevard to New England Avenue on Saturday, April 16, beginning at 3 p.m.


CITY BLOOD DRIVE

A critical number of voluntary donations are required every day to meet the need for blood. To donate blood, you must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110 pounds and be in good health. All donors must bring photo ID.

Time: 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
